Enjoy the sun and sea on the French Riviera
If you’re looking for a relaxing seaside break, head to the Cote d’Azur. With its warm Mediterranean climate, it is a great Autumnal escape. A first-class holiday destination, the Cote d’Azur is often referred to as the French Riviera. It’s possible to visit on budget, despite its long history of being a favourite destination amongst the upper-classes. With its fabulous seafood, splendid shopping and excellent nightlife you won’t worry for lack of things to do. With its various cafes and scenic landscapes, you’ll also enjoy just sitting back and taking in the great atmosphere.
Stretching across France’s Southern coast, the French Riviera is made up of several cities and towns. If you want to see them all, it’s a good idea to base yourself in Nice as it offers a great railway service to other destinations. An array of cheap hotels also makes this a great place to stay. A walk down the historic Promenade des Anglais and you’ll understand what Nice is really about. From the sea stretching out on one side to the snow-capped peaks of the Alps on the other, it’s hard not to be impressed.
For a more luxurious break, head to Cannes. This playground for the rich and famous is ripe with designer boutiques and hot night spots. If you want to catch a few rays, visit the seaside where you’ll find plenty of places to eat, drink and lounge in the sunshine. Don’t forget to pack your snazziest outfit for the night-time - Cannes is all about the glitz and glamour. It may sound pricey, but if you visit in the shoulder or off season, you’ll be able to find cheap hotels to balance out your cocktail budget.
For a more budget destination, visit Menton. There’s a strong Italian influence in this tiny French town as it once belonged to Genoa. Tourists love its charming cobbled streets and medieval architecture. You’ll also find plenty of shops, gardens and museums. With its cheap hotels, Menton is a great base for travelling along the coast.
